Nawaya — Privacy Policy

Nawaya is a reminder app that helps you set an intention (niyyah) before the activities of your day (“Nawaya”, “we”). The short version: Nawaya collects nothing. Everything you enter stays on your phone.

What Nawaya stores, and where

Nawaya keeps the following only on your phone, in the app's own storage:

• the activities you add (“obligations”): their titles, days, times, reminder lead times and the intention text you choose or write, and whether an activity is for Ramadan only;
• the intentions you mark as set, kept for 90 days to show your week (you can switch this off in Settings → Reminders);
• your settings: theme, appearance, language, reminder sound, time format, week start and the Hijri date adjustment;
• if you use prayer times: the location they are calculated for (a city you chose, coordinates you typed, or your position rounded to about 1 km) and the calculation method;
• small technical records the app needs to work, such as the reminders it has scheduled.

Nawaya has no account, no server and no internet connection. It does not send any of this anywhere, and neither we nor anyone else can see it.

What Nawaya does not do

• No analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no crash-reporting services.
• No sign-in, no cloud sync, no contacts, camera, microphone or photos.
• No location in the background, and never without you asking (see below).
• No sale or sharing of data — there is none to share.

Location, for prayer times only

Prayer times depend on where you are. In Settings → Prayer times you can choose a city from a list built into the app, type coordinates, or tap Use my location. Only in that last case does Nawaya ask for permission to use your location while the app is open. It then reads your approximate position once, rounds it to about 1 km, and keeps it on your phone to calculate prayer times. The prayer times are calculated on the phone as well.

Nawaya never reads your location in the background and never sends it anywhere. Delete all data removes it, and you can turn the permission off at any time in your phone's settings.

Reminders

Reminders are local notifications: your phone's system schedules and shows them at the times you set. No notification server is involved and nothing about your reminders leaves the phone. For prayer times, Nawaya plans a few days of reminders at a time and renews them on the phone: when you open the app, overnight on Android, and on iPhone when iOS gives it a moment in the background.

Nawaya asks for the permissions reminders need, and nothing else:

• Notifications (iPhone and Android) — to show the reminders.
• Alarms & reminders / exact alarms (Android) — so reminders arrive on the minute.
• Run at startup (Android, RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) — to put your reminders back after the phone restarts.
• Vibration (Android) — for the reminder's vibration, if your settings allow it.
• Location while using the app (optional, approximate) — only if you tap Use my location for prayer times.

You can change these at any time in your phone's settings. Android's app information page may also list technical permissions declared by the software components Nawaya is built with, such as network access or keeping the phone awake for a moment while a reminder is shown. Nawaya never connects to the internet.

Export, import and sharing

Nawaya creates an export file only when you tap Export (Settings → Data). The file is made on your phone and you choose where it goes through the system share sheet (for example Files or an e-mail you send). From then on it is handled by the app or service you chose, under that service's own policy. Import reads a file you pick and changes nothing until you confirm.

Share as image works the same way: when you tap Share, Nawaya draws the picture of a verse or of your intention on your phone and hands it to the share sheet; it goes only where you send it. Nawaya does not read your photos.

Home-screen widget

If you add the Nawaya widget, the app gives it your next activity (its title, time and intention) through storage that the app and its widget share on your phone (on iPhone, an app group). Nothing leaves the phone; removing the widget or the app removes it.

Backups made by your phone

If your phone's own backup is switched on (iCloud Backup on iPhone, Google backup on Android), the system may include Nawaya's data in your device backup, like it does for other apps. That backup belongs to your Apple or Google account and follows your settings and their privacy policies; Nawaya does not send, read or control it.

Statistics from the app stores

Apple and Google may show us aggregated, anonymous statistics about the app — for example the number of downloads, or crash reports from people who chose, in their phone's settings, to share diagnostics with developers. This is collected by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies, not by Nawaya.

Deleting your data

Settings → Data → Delete all data removes everything Nawaya stored on your phone. Uninstalling the app removes it too.

Children

Nawaya is not directed at children under 13. It does not collect personal information from anyone, children included.

Religious content

The Qur'anic verses and the ḥadīth shown in the app are bundled with the app and credited to their sources (Settings → Sources & licenses). Showing them involves no data about you.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at the same address with a new effective date, and the change will be mentioned in the app's release notes.
